The 4th Annual Slocum Shootout was a huge success
The day
On Monday, October 5, 2026, golfers, sponsors, volunteers and friends filled Potowomut Golf Club in East Greenwich for the 4th Annual Slocum Shootout. It was a full day of golf, food, music and conversation, all in service of two causes: Operation Stand Down Rhode Island and The Saint Elizabeth Community.
We're still counting, and the final total raised is coming soon. Last year's tournament raised $13,500. As always, 100% of proceeds go to our two charity partners.
Here's how the day unfolded.
Check-in and tee-off
Check-in opened at 10:00 AM under fantastic weather. Players picked up their carts, caught up with friends and helped themselves to coffee and pastries from Seven Stars Bakery, who generously donated them for the morning.
At 11:00 AM, 112 players in 28 foursomes headed out for an 18-hole scramble. The field mixed familiar faces from past years with plenty of new ones. The format keeps everyone in the game. Your team plays its best shot every time, so a beginner and a scratch golfer can share a cart and both have a good day.
On the course
The golf was only part of it. A few stops drew crowds all afternoon.
At the Air Cannon, players skipped their drive and launched their own ball off the tee box, with volunteers helping line up the shot. A good one lands on the green, and plenty of teams pulled it off.
The Clink 'n Sink putting green was lined with liquor bottles. Sink the putt, keep the bottle. Santino and JT both went home with great ones.
At the Hole of Fortune, sponsored by D'Ellena Law, teams spun the wheel for an advantage on the hole. Longest Drive, sponsored by Liberty Mutual, and Closest to the Pin, sponsored by Raymond Kelley, gave the big hitters and the precise ones something to play for.
Moving Dough, Perky Turkey and Lake Taco kept the course fed all day, with drinks, games and live music along the way.
Why we play
Every dollar from the day goes to two organizations doing hard, steady work here in Rhode Island. 100% of proceeds, split between our two charity partners.
Operation Stand Down Rhode Island and The Saint Elizabeth Community each describe their work in their own words in short videos on slocumshootout.com. Watch them. They say it better than we can.
The 19th hole
Around 4:00 PM, everyone came back in for heavy passed apps, drinks and the raffle drawing.
The big moment of the afternoon was the $5,000 raffle. The winning ticket belonged to Mark Sullivan, one of our own agents, and it happened to be his birthday. Happy birthday, Mark.
